Web security and performance

How Cloudflare-powered DDoS protection, a web application firewall and CDN caching work together to protect and speed up your website - and how to get your domain set up with it through Silurian.

01

What this actually protects and speeds up

Once your domain is set up, its DNS becomes authoritative on Cloudflare's network and eligible web traffic is routed through Cloudflare before it reaches your server. That single point gives you TLS encryption, DDoS mitigation, firewall policy, caching and performance tuning all in one place, instead of needing to configure each separately at your origin server.

02

Three things you get in one product

It's easiest to think of this as three foundations working together, even though Silurian presents it to you as one simple service:

  • Security: managed DDoS protection, a web application firewall (WAF), and bot or access controls depending on your plan.
  • Performance: CDN caching, compression, modern network protocols and optional traffic optimisation, so your site loads faster for visitors everywhere.
  • DNS: fast-propagating authoritative DNS, with DNSSEC support and records that work correctly with proxying turned on.
03

Keeping your domain wherever it's registered

Where your domain is registered and how it's protected are two independent choices. You can keep your domain with its current registrar and just point its DNS at this service, or combine it with a Silurian domain registration later - whichever suits you.

Getting started and what it costs

A Free plan is a genuinely usable starting point for an eligible domain - it's not a crippled trial. If you need more, paid plans and add-ons show their current price clearly before you check out and activate.
